All this discussion of what we as patients, advocates, and healthcare entrepreneurs is great but if we never engage the Providers, we are only talking to ourselves.
I propose we assemble 5-7 providers and pose 5 questions in a panel format.
Qs:
1. Internet 1.0 - How has the availability of online medical information affected your practice?
2. Patient Prosumers - What is your response to the patient who has learned a great deal of information about their possible or actual conditions - when they are right, and when they are wrong?
3. EHRs and Meaningful Use - Have you implemented an EHR and how has it changed the way you practice medicine? Has it affected follow-up or overal patient care? Do you integrate with online PHRs like HealthVault or Google Health?
4. HCR - How has the health care reform bill changed the way you think about the future of medicine?
5. The Future and How You Fit In - Where do you see the evolution of patient care going and how do you intend to be a part of it?
I would love to participate in such a session. I think my experience could contribute to the discussion. See http://www.linkedin.com/in/sjdmd![]()
This is great. I also recommend reviewing the past and current research from New York State including provider issues. http://www.hitecny.org/research/publications/![]()

This group is dedicated to advancing innovations that focus on improving patient care with the active involvement of Patients, Physicians, Nurses, Administrators, Engineers, and even Lawyers. If your interest is in improving the practice and performance of medicine, than this is the meetup for you.
Borne of the Health 2.0 international movement, Eugene Borukovich started the NYC chapter in 2008. Our chapter has since grown to become the largest healthcare innovation focused meetup in the world, running events that focus on specific topics such as the impact of social media in Healthcare or our Startup pitch contest called "Pitch Yourself into the Shark Tank." The investments, partnerships and collaborations that have come from this meetup are myriad, as we purposely foster the genesis, growth and development of innovative technology companies. A few of the companies that have presented: Phreesia, Zweena, ZocDoc, HelloHealth, YourNurseIsOn, DrChrono, ComScore, HealthLeap, MyHealthExperience, Healthrageous, WellApps, and a few dozen others.
Be like me, come with an idea, leave with a company. I run this group as my way of saying thanks for helping my concept get from the drawing board to over 250,000 searches for care and the attention of Patients, Physicians, Hospitals, Employers, and VCs across the country with our new healthcare marketplace.
...but this isn't about me, it is what over 1,250 healthcare innovators can do for healthcare.
Who presents here?
Mostly what we have are the leaders of the NYC healthcare innovation scene. By putting us all together in one place, we are creating the future of healthcare.
We are always looking for start-ups and individuals to present the ideas or products they are working on. Please be welcome to join the conversation, propose a topic, or suggest an alternative format. We are a largely user-driven group, so suggest a topic and we will do the most popular event.
We also enable more established companies to get their message out to the healthcare innovation community through sponsorship and speaking. So if there is an event, challenge, or product release you would like to talk about, please contact me.
Thanks for visiting, we hope to see you soon!

I'm still looking for the physician leaders 15 years after managed care came to NYC. They are only interested in getting more patients. They don't understand that they should be working smarter not harder.
